Castlerigg Stone Circle

Class 3 headed towards Keswick at the end of September to visit the famous stone circle at Castlerigg. After the walk up from the road the children learned lots about life in the past from the time-travelling Fred and Wilma.

As well as learning about the ancient site and how it was likely to have been used, Fred and Wilma introduced the children to some of the foods that they enjoyed.

After this, the children explored the stones, measuring the circumference of the circle as well as the heights of the some of the larger "megaliths".

Taking the short walk to Rookery Woods, after a lunch in the Autumn sun, the children were able to enjoy the adventure area.

In the session after lunch, after making primitive stone axes, the final activity of the day was a challenging Orienteering course around the grounds.
